Sale Exchange Football

Last Wednesday we welcomed the Catholic College Sale into our community for the annual Sale Exchange football games. Games are played between the Intermediate and Junior football teams of each schools. These annual games have been played for 25 years and use sport to connect students from the wider Marist community.

Scores from the Junior game where: Marcellin 12.11- 83 def Catholic College Sale 3.11- 29. Marcellin awarded their Best on Ground award to Patrick Dozzi from Marcellin college, a fantastic game and a well deserved achievement. Honourable mentions were Jackson Smith and Joseph Bandiera who both kicked three goals, while Ben Freeman was fantastic down back. It was a well fought out match between both teams, and was played fairly in the Marist Way.

The Intermediate Team also were victorious, with Marcellin’s Best on Ground being awarded to Lucas Perry for an outstanding game. Final score was Marcellin 19.14 - 128 to Sale 2.2 -14.

Athletics Trial event at Burwood

Although it seems to have only just started, the Aths season is already coming to a close for those boys who have been heading to various Aths tracks around Melbourne for the past few weeks. Having had the school Athletics carnival only four days earlier, many boys had already gotten some extra training in last week by the time Saturday rolled around. Down at the Bill Stewart Athletics track on Saturday, boys showed up in good numbers and we had good participation across most track and field events. Some noteworthy performances were; Xavier Chung who ran 100 meters in 11.5 seconds in the Under 16 Boys event; Mostyn Drieberg who ran 800 meters in 2.22 minutes in the Under 14 Boys event; Max Poletti with a jump of 5.60 meters in the Under 17 Boys Long Jump event and Luke Crawford with a throw of 18.41 meters in the Under 13 Boys Discus event. It has been great to see the boys encouraging each other and the team spirit growing, even in such a short season.  We look forward to everyone getting down to our last Saturday meet at Burwood on Sunday 9 September before the Athletics season wraps up and the final team is put together to represent Marcellin at the AGSV Finals at Lakeside Stadium next week.
