On Monday 20 May, eight year 7
students from Marcellin College attended the Da Vinci Decathlon at Camberwell
Grammar. The Decathlon celebrates the academic excellence of students. During
the day the students completed papers from the following 10 disciplines: Science,
English, Ideation, Art and Poetry, Creative Producers, Maths, Cartography, Code
breaking, Engineering and General Knowledge.
Our College representatives were: Deisel Rozon, Freddie Curry, Oscar Carafa, Jonathan Low, Isaac Rakuscek, Oakley Tang, Luca Ryan and Oliver Wright.
The boys competed enthusiastically and respectfully against 17 other teams. They showed fabulous collaborative skills, using their strengths and talents to compliment each other when tackling difficult problems. Some aspects of the challenges included: writing a final stanza to the poem “My Country” by Dorothea Mackellar using advanced poetic devices and using their engineering skills to devise a plan that would assist in making farmland more sustainable.
While the students thoroughly enjoyed the challenging work that was set for them, they spoke about how great it was, as year 7's, to have the opportunity to socialise and get to know each other better. It was a positive and very enjoyable day for everyone! - Margie Mutimer Learning Diversity
