As we move again into Home Learning it is vital for VCE students to keep up their focus on the completion of the Unit 4 studies.

This week families have an opportunity to discuss progress at Parent Teacher Student Interviews, but they should also be looking forward and discussing the end of year examinations, and the type of study program that may be required to achieve desired results.

Students over the next six weeks will be completing the last of their assessments for Unit 4, a small number may go into Term 4. Once all assessments are completed satisfactorily students that have completed four or more Unit 3&4 subjects will have gained the required number of units to receive their Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). They should be congratulated on reaching that milestone, however, by the end of Term the focus will change to examinations. For most students, 50% or more of the Study Score will come from their end of year examination results. Even though the Term 3 break allows time to rest and refresh, it will also be an important time to consolidate notes and engage in ongoing study for examinations.

The Trial examination week is held in the second week of the Term 3 break (Monday 14 September to Friday 18 September) and is compulsory for Unit 3&4 students.  Examinations will be held in St Marcellin’s Hall and will be marked and returned to students by the end of the first week of Term 4.

End of year written examinations can contribute up to 66% of Study Scores, they also play a vital role as does the General Achievement Test (GAT) in moderating internal assessment. Statistical moderation compares and aligns the level and spread of each school's assessments of its students in a study against a common scale. The VCAA provides details on their website about this process, and it is worth a read.

As was indicted earlier in the week by James Merlino Minister for Education, the GAT will be moved from September to Wednesday 7 October, week 1 of Term 4.

All students enrolled in one or more VCE or scored VCE VET Unit 3 and 4 sequences - and particularly those students who are expecting to satisfactorily complete their senior secondary certificate this year - are expected to sit the GAT.

We encourage students in Years 7 – 10 to continue the extremely positive start they have made to this second Home Learning Program. Teachers have fed back that students have been participating and engaging with online classes in a really pleasing manner. As always please contact your son’s subject/course teacher directly should you have any questions regarding your son’s classes and learning.

Thank you to parents for the significant support you have given to the Program Selection process and supporting your son to make informed choices for his learning in 2021 and beyond.

Current Year 7s selections are due on Friday 21 August as per previous communication; they may be completed prior.
